Making Facebook's Changes work for YOU!

There has been A LOT of talk lately about Facebook's NEW changes and how those changes will affect the individual person who just wants to see their favorite posts from their favorite peeps! In fact, there has been SO much chatter about it, because there is not one among us who is keen on ANOTHER change in Facebook, that I thought I would come to you today to show you a quick and easy way to make the new changes work for you as best you can so that you can keep all your favorite designers and stores and tutorial writers (that's me!) right at your Facebook fingertips!

If you haven't heard what all the fuss is about, then you are probably asking yourself "What now?"  After all, we have endured quite a few changes from Facebook since its inception. Well, here's the buzz. Recently, Facebook announced some new changes to the way the average Facebook users will be able to view their posts and everyone seems to be getting angry at the idea!  The way I understand the changes to work is that we will no longer be able to see all the companies and individuals that we have "liked" on our Facebook feed.  In fact, Facebook, in its attempt to optimize each individual user’s experience, will only show the user what it believes are the most interesting or relevant posts to you based on how many times you have been to the page, made a comment or "liked" a comment on the page!  In short, the more YOU are interested in a page, the more likely Facebook is to display the page you are interested in on your newsfeed.

This is where the changes get kinda sticky, and this is why people are getting a little angry. Most of us "like" a page because we are interested in whatever the company or individual has to say! In fact, I know I personally will not click "like" unless I want to see all the info in my newsfeed! I know that if I DON"T want to see what they have to say that I can just "UNLIKE" the page, so that their info no longer shows on my newsfeed.  The fact that Facebook now thinks it should determine what is important to ME...makes me a little miffed too! I may not visit a page and leave a comment, but that doesn't mean I don't want to know what is going on in the store or in their lives! Sometimes, all I need is that little bit of info from them and I am good to go.  I don't want to HAVE to make a comment in order to keep up with them!

So by now you are probably wondering "What do I do to change Facebook to meet MY needs?"   The answer is really quite simple! You have to CREATE A LIST!! That is it! I honestly don't think that Facebook is out to keep us from seeing everything we WANT to see.  I really do think that they THINK they are helping us, but nevertheless, some of us will NOT be happy that Facebook is taking control of what we see!  SO,  they have given us an option that allows us to take control over the pages that we can see and I actually think this is a great alternative because it allows me to group ALL my pages together the way I would like to see them. For instance, I can group all my favorite designers together; I can group all my favorite tutorial writers together; all my family; and all my friends...then, all I have to do is click on that group in the Interests section on Facebook, and I can see them all right there together! Now I don't have to mix business with pleasure!!

So let's get to it!!! In order to get your lists set up, locate the home page on your Facebook. This is the page that shows all your newsfeed..not the one that shows all of YOUR  posts only.

On the left side column, down near the bottom is a section named “Interests”. Click  on “Add Interests”.

Once you click to "add" and interest, a dialogue box will pop up. Click the “Create List” button at the top right of the page.

This is where the fun begins!  Once you click to "Create a List",  you will  get a "Create New List" dialogue box that will allow you to select the pages you want to add to your new list.

Now you can go through all of the pages that you have liked and select the ones that you want to include in your new list by just clicking on them. You can be as specific as you want to be or as general as you want to be. For instance, if you want to make a list with all your favorite designers, you can add just those favorite designers. If you want to create a list just called "scrapbooking", and add everything from designers to tutorials, you can do that as well! YOU have the control over this part!!

You can add people from your "friends" tab as well as from your "pages" tab  just by clicking on the tabs at the left hand side of the page.  Once you’ve selected all of the pages and friends you want to include, click “Next” at the bottom of the window.

Now you can name the list you just created as well as control the visibility of the list.

I named my list “Scrapbooking Designers”, as I want to be able to see ALL of them at one time. I set my list to "public" but you can set your list to view it as "private"...this is solely up to you. If you want others to be able to see it and subscribe to your list then public is the way to go...if you are all about keeping it to yourself, then click private!

Once you have named your list, and selected its visibility, click "Done" at the bottom of the page. You now have a list in your Interests section that you can click on and immediately see ALL the posts  posted by the people and businesses you have selected!  These list should NEVER be edited by Facebook..they will ALWAYS include every post, so go for it! Add a list for friends and family..photography... ME...oh, and don't forget Mye..she is, after all, the reason you come to this fantastic blog on a daily basis!

Whatever you decide, and however you set it up, adding these lists to your Facebook will help you to stay in touch with all the people and places you love!

Hope this helps you make your Facebook experience a little easier! Have a FABULOUS week ahead!
